splitting the difference by devequeandrais on Mon Aug 04, 2008 7:21 pm
I know that most of us have heard of "self Publishing" you pay to have the book printed, and selling it falls squarely on your sholders. Sucks doesn't it? Because we want to be writters, not sales people. So we can find someone that basically buys our work, and takes the risk of printing and selling the book. Or we take the risk ourselves. But is there something in between? You bet there is. It's called subsidy publishing. Now there is a risk that the author takes, but there is also a benefit. They work on selling the book to other venues. For example Vantage Press.

Believe it or not I found out about this place while waiting to get my hair cut. You would be amazed at where you can find things. Simply keeping your eyes open can show you options on how to reach your goals!

Dr. Horrible by nilamo on Fri Jul 25, 2008 12:58 am
It's official: I really like Dr. Horrible. http://www.drhorrible.com/

It's been taken off the web, but I saw all I needed to see. This movie is hilarious, even if it is only 45min long. I've obtained all three acts, so in my (gratuitous) amounts of free time, I plan on combining them, together with a few extra goodies, into a single video. It'll be fun, I've never played with video before.

Anyone else see this film?

Best Advice from Andrea

After 25 years as an agent, I have discovered the "5 P's of Publishing Success." If followed, they work and you will have success in the publishing business. The first is "Passion." You need the passion to write—whatever it is—and it gets you up at six am before work or keeps you up late into the evening. As Isaac Asimov said," I write for the same reason that I breathe—because I have to." The second "P of publishing success" is Product. You have to write something worth selling. Don't write if you have nothing to say. Make sure your project or product is the strongest it can be. Third is Patience. You need lots of it in this business. It may take years to get your work published. Persistence is the fourth "P." Please, don't give up after several rejections. Rejection is a part of this business and you must develop a thick skin. I have seen many talented writers never get published because they gave ...

Letter to and From Margret Wies, author Dragon Lance series by devequeandrais on Mon Jul 21, 2008 6:35 pm
Okay so I took a shot, I thought "Hey if we are a group of writers, why not invite some published authors? " So I went for it, without taking into consideration that, they can't really read or critique our writings for fear of copy write infringements. They have to protect thir livelyhood. ButI gave it a shot.

Earl,

Thanks so much!

As to young writers, my advice always is: Keep reading. Keep writing. Keep your day job.

Good luck!

Margaret

Ms Weis, You don't know me from Adam, and you probably get 1000+ e-mails every day. But I wanted to write to you for 2 reasons. First to say Thank you. It was because of the Dragon Lance series that I became a reader. You captured my attention, and inspired me to read more. This has been a priceless asset in my life, and I don't know what else to say but Thank you. The second reason for writing to you, is I have found a small community...

Not to be confused with Moose.

So, even in the bleakness that is this current patch of Writer's Block, I have hope! Wonder if you can create muses...>8D

Erm, don't mind me. Anyway, expect an update or something some time soon!

Ooh, that reminds me! I've got several projects I'm working on, and I don't know which to shove my nose to the grindstone for (but I want to finish at least a lot of writing on them 'fore . So here's a vague description/progress for each, and a link to the novel (or some of the drabbles, they're not all in novel form yet), and YOU guys help me decide!

Author 100 - 100 short stories with no set time limit. Most of what I've been writing this summer. (24/100 (23 posted)) Click.
Blood and Ink - The first-ish novel (well, actually, it's a series) I ever really decided to work on. The story line and writing has completely...
